Ancient Wisdom of Traditional Chinese Medicine

Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) has been a cornerstone of health and wellness for thousands of years, deeply rooted in the philosophies of balance, harmony, and natural healing.  At Herbar, we embrace these ancient practices for the modern beauty.

There are two of important aspects of Traditional Chinese Medicine:

1. Yin and Yang

The concept of Yin and Yang represents the dual nature of everything in the universe, which was later absorbed by Daoism. In TCM, health is seen as a balance between these two forces. Yin is associated with coolness, darkness, and rest, while Yang embodies warmth, light, and activity.  An imbalance between Yin and Yang can lead to illness, the symptoms can have:
  • Yin deficiency: heat sensations, possible sweating at night, insomnia, dry pharynx, dry mouth, dark urine, menstruation issues, and a “fine” and rapid pulse.
  • Yang deficiency: aversion to cold, cold limbs, bright white complexion, long voidings of clear urine, painful periods, pale and enlarged tongue, and a slightly weak, slow and fine pulses.

And TCM practices aim to restore this balance through various treatments, including various forms of herbal medicine. Our Skin Pearls  are an harmonious blend of ingredients rooted in the principles of Traditional Chinese Medicine, designed to balance both Yin and Yang for radiant, healthy skin. Reishi and Tremella, deeply nourishing and hydrating, work to replenish Yin energy, promoting calm, hydrated, and rejuvenated skin. Complementing these, Yang-boosting elements like Eleuthero invigorate and energize, enhancing skin vitality and resilience against environmental stressors. Cordyceps serves as a powerful adaptogen, harmonizing Yin and Yang, while Rosehip infuses the skin with antioxidants, supporting a balanced, luminous complexion.

2. Qi (Chi)

It often described as the vital life force, flows through the body along pathways known as meridians. This energy is essential for maintaining health and vitality. When Qi flows smoothly, the body functions optimally, but blockages or disruptions in its flow can lead to various physical and emotional health issues. Techniques like acupuncture, herbal medicine, and Qigong exercises are traditionally used to ensure the smooth flow of Qi. Our specially designed Guashroom works on acupuncture pressure points to relieve these blockages, restore balance, and enhance the effectiveness of topical products by improving their absorption. When Qi is not flowing smoothly, it can result in a range of problems, including pain and discomfort, digestive issues, emotional imbalances, fatigue, weakened immunity, poor circulation, and respiratory problems. Addressing these blockages is crucial for maintaining overall well-being, making the smooth flow of Qi a cornerstone of holistic health.

Gua-shroom is our innovative take on the traditional Gua Sha, designed for use on the face as well as the body. The face, according to Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), is covered by several key meridians, with six main meridians passing through it. These are:

  1. Stomach Meridian (Yangming)

    • Location on the Face: This meridian runs along the sides of the nose, beneath the eyes, and down the jawline.
    • Functions: The Stomach Meridian is primarily responsible for digestion and the overall health of the stomach and spleen. On the face, it influences the clarity of the complexion, and issues like acne or puffiness under the eyes may be related to imbalances in this meridian. By stimulating the Stomach Meridian, Gua-shroom can help improve digestive function, indirectly enhancing skin clarity and reducing puffiness and dullness.

  2. Large Intestine Meridian (Yangming)

    • Location on the Face: It starts at the corner of the mouth, runs along the sides of the nose, and up to the forehead.
    • Functions: This meridian is associated with the large intestine and plays a key role in detoxification and waste elimination. It’s linked to skin health and can affect conditions such as acne, rashes, or dryness. Working on the Large Intestine Meridian can improve circulation, leading to a brighter, more even complexion.

  3. Small Intestine Meridian (Taiyang)

    • Location on the Face: This meridian runs from the area near the outer corner of the eyes to the front of the ears and down to the jaw.
    • Functions: The Small Intestine Meridian aids in nutrient absorption and the separation of pure from impure substances in the body. Imbalances in this meridian may manifest as facial tension, redness, or issues related to the jaw and cheeks. By smoothing Qi flow along this meridian, Gua-shroom can help balance emotional stress that manifests in facial tension and redness.

  4. Bladder Meridian (Taiyang)

    • Location on the Face: It runs from the inner corner of the eyes, across the forehead, and up to the scalp.
    • Functions: The Bladder Meridian is associated with the urinary system and the regulation of fluids in the body. It also impacts the brain and nervous system, and imbalances can result in tension headaches, stress-related issues, or eye problems. Stimulating this meridian with Gua-shroom can have a calming effect on the nervous system, promoting better sleep, which is crucial for healthy skin.

  5. Gallbladder Meridian (Shaoyang)

    • Location on the Face: This meridian runs from the outer corner of the eyes, along the sides of the head, and up towards the temples.
    • Functions: The Gallbladder Meridian influences decision-making, courage, and emotional processing. On the face, it’s linked to the health of the skin around the eyes and temples. Imbalances can manifest as tension in the temples, migraines, or issues with the eyes. Stimulating this meridian can improve blood flow around the eyes, reducing dark circles and promoting healthier eyes.

  6. Triple Burner (San Jiao) Meridian (Shaoyang)

    • Location on the Face: It passes near the temples, along the side of the face, and down to the jawline.
    • Functions: The Triple Burner, or San Jiao, is not associated with a single organ but with the body’s regulatory systems, including fluid balance and the function of various organs. On the face, it helps regulate temperature and fluid balance, which can affect puffiness, swelling, and overall complexion. By working on this meridian, Gua-shroom helps maintain the balance of internal organs, resulting in a more radiant and glowing complexion.

Incorporating the principles of Traditional Chinese Medicine into your daily routine can enhance not only your skin's appearance but also your overall well-being. Beauty is not only skin deep.
